Cleaning/Removing Stains

How do I remove mildew & algae from my MSNSP?

Option 1: Bleach

How do I remove rust from my MSNSP?

Use RSR-2000 by Alpha Advantage. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the back of the tube.

How do I remove leaf stains from my MSNSP?

Your average leaf stains can easily remove with Deck Brightener by ACR Product. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions

How do I remove oil & grease from my MSNSP?

Use a scrub brush and either degreaser or Palmolive dish soap from your local hardware store.

How do I remove tire marks from my MSNSP?

Use hot water and Clean Concrete from GST
Use hot water and a scrub brush. This step will take several times before removing the marks.

How do I remove food, wine, or juices from my MSNSP?

Use water and Pro Grade from GTS with a scrub brush.

Yes – we recommend a surface cleaner for all horizontal applications, and a wide-angle wand for all vertical applications.

When dealing with the sandblasted finishes, test a small area, not getting too close to the surface of the product where you can potentially remove the finish and create streaks.
It is important to note that power washing can possibly blow out polymeric sand in the joints – the joints may need to be refilled afterward. Refill joints based on the manufacturer’s instructions.

What is the cause of water marks on my MSNSP?

Due to the variables in nature, natural stone can tend to hold moisture, causing water marks. This does not affect the structural integrity of the product and will dissipate over time.

Sealing / Grouting

Is it necessary to seal my MSNSP?

It is not necessary to seal, however, two main reasons why sealing is mainly used is to enhance the stone or to protect.

How often do I have to seal my MSNSP?

This will depend on the client – some clients like to clean and re-seal every year, some clients seal one time and never seal again. Reapplication is based upon natural variables such as traffic, sunlight, and natural elements. On average, you should re-seal every 2-4 years.

Do I have to seal the bottom of my MSNSP?

No — it does not allow the stone to breathe if it is sealed. It is also not necessary to seal the sides of each stone.

Can I get my MSNSP pre-sealed from the factory?

No — sealer is applied on site post installation.

How do I seal the borders and the field pavers with different sealers?

Tape off the field pavers and cover them with plastic.
Roll sealers on the borders.
Next day, tape the borders and cover with plastic.
Spray the field pavers in a circular motion.

Some helpful tips:

Seal during a time where there is no rain or strong sunlight.
Apply the sealer during temperatures above 32°F.
Wipe up the excess. If you do not wipe the excess sealer that has not penetrated the stone, you will be left with a thin, clear film and the stone will become susceptible to a change in slip co-efficiency.

What type of grout do I use on my MSNSP?

Sanded/Unsanded Grout: When using sanded grout, allow for 1/8″ grout joint or more. When using unsanded grout, allow for 1/8″ grout joint or less.
Polymeric Sand: Any size grout joint is acceptable. Tamping is recommended to consolidate all sand into the joints.

Does sealing my MSNSP with an enhancer make it hotter?

Yes — testing is recommended before making the final decision on the type of sealer to use for your space.

Should the Antiqued be grouted or sealed first?

Always grout, then clean, then seal.

Should the Sandblasted be grouted or sealed first?

Always grout, then clean, then seal.

Will sealing change the slip co-efficiency of my MSNSP?

When applied correctly, the sealer will not change the slip co-efficiency of the product, unless purchasing a sealer specifically with the intention of changing the texture.

• Sanded / Unsanded grout: When using sanded grout, allow for 1/8” grout joint or more. When using unsanded grout, allow for 1/8” grout joint or less.

Working with Your MSNSP

Which side is the finished side of my MSNSP?

When determining the finished side of the stone vs. the back side of the stone, you will note blade marks on the back side. If this is not clear on some pieces, please consult with your sales rep for clarification.

What type of sand is used to sandblast my MSNSP?

Black Beauty Ultra Fine Sand.

How can I eliminate a scratch on the surface on my antiqued MSNSP?

Take a grinder and start with a 60 grit sand paper, then work your way up to 120 grit.

How can I achieve an eased edge detail on my straight edge MSNSP?

• Sandpaper: Wrap sandpaper around a wooden block and lightly run along the edge.
• Variable speed grinder: Run 60-120 grit sandpaper lightly along the edge.

How can I fill a pitting in my MSNSP?

Crush larger pieces of your MSNSP used on the project into an ultra-fine powder.
Mix the powdered stone with an epoxy.
Add Superior V-Max SV-9 hardener per manufacturer’s instructions.
Fill in pitting with your mix using a putty knife.
Clean off excess surrounding the pit.

Note – the area should be completely clean and dry beforehand.

How can I properly drill a hole into my MSNSP?

Use a diamond tip core bit and water.

To specifically drill holes for a pool cover, please ask your sales rep for our construction detail sheet.

Maintaining your MSNSP

Can I use a deicer on my MSNSP?

Yes — calcium chloride is recommended.

Can radiant heat be used under my MSNSP?

Yes, Any MSNSP will work with radiant heat, no matter the thickness. Follow the instructions of the heating element company.

Use a shovel or snow blower if possible. If a plow is needed, a rubber bottom is recommended.

Does the color of the product change over time?

Your MSNSP from the crate will age over time — the sandblasted finishes will enrich in color, while the antiqued finishes will get slightly light in color. The aging process will depend on the type of installation, the finish, and the natural elements.
